Artist Jamil Akbar Shamim has transported his inner feelings though abstract paintings at his first ever solo show at the Institute of Asian Creative in Gulshan.
The three-week exhibition titled U showcases about 64 paintings, most of which are done in acrylic and mixed mediums.
To create a unique feature of his painting, the experimental artist has illustrated certain Bangla pharses in English alphabets written in different colourful calligraphic styles.
Such a painting on the exhibition is the mixed-media painting Jokhon Tomay Dekhi (when I see you) which depicts the sentence in black on the canvas smeared with bold strokes in yellow, blue and dark red.
One of the most captivating paintings on the exhibition is Onek Kotha Bola Holo (have said a lot).
This painting depicts the text on the title on a vivid contrasting yellow background.
The large fonts written primarily in black with red outlines can compel the visitors to pause and take a look at the painting.
Unlike the colorful paintings, Hotath Tumi Ele (suddenly you came) is quite insipid with black text on a white backdrop showing the diversity of the artist.
About his paintings, Shamim said to New Age that utilisation of text on canvas is not a new concept in the global arena of art.
‘I have used words to convey my feelings to the viewers so that they understand what I felt while making the painting,’ added the artist to New Age.
The exhibition, which was inaugurated on October 04, will remain open for all from 12:00pm to 8:00pm till October 26.
