National women’s chess champion, Sharmin Sultana Shirin, achieved a rare feat on Wednesday as she was crowned only the sixth Bangladeshi woman to earn the FIDE master title, the Bangladesh Chess federation confirmed it through a press release.
The World Chess Federation confirmed the status after her brilliant performance in the Asian Zonal Women’s Chess Championship in Sri Lanka in February, where she finished fourth with 6 points from nine games.
Sharmin, however, failed to prove her worth in the recently concluded Asian Continental Chess Championship in Manila as she could only earn a single point out of nine games. She got the point as result of a walkover while she lost all the other eight games.
