Shesher Kabita staged
Prangonemor staged Tagore’s Shesher Kabita on the sixth day of the ongoing theatre festival at the Music and Dance Centre Hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
The troupe is celebrating its 10th founding anniversary by organising an eight-day festival featuring all the eight productions of the troupe.
The play Shesher Kabita is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s most read romantic novel with the same title. Ananta Hira has adapted the play, while his wife Nuna Afroz has directed it.
Prangonemor’s presentation of the popular love triangle among the characters – Amit Roy, Labanya and Shovonlal – was interesting in terms of its innovative compositions.
It was a blend of music, dance, narration and realistic acting. More interestingly two male actors played the role of Amit while three female actors played the role of Labanya to bring about variation in the play, shared the director of the play Nuna Afroz.
‘This is an experimental production; I have used different techniques in narration, songs, dialogues to stage the popular novel,’ said Nuna Afroz. A houseful audience enjoyed the play. ‘I have read the novel several times and I found the production quite interesting,’ said Pitom Kumar Nandi, an audience.
‘It was a colourful production. The selection of songs was delightful,’ said another audience Nazmul Hasan.
