The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out a procession early Sunday on the Rajshahi University campus after the announcement of victory of BNP-backed Rajshahi mayoral candidate Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul.
Witnesses said a hundred of leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession from central Shaheed Minar on the campus at around 1:15am.
The procession went out of the campus through the fine arts department parading past all male halls.
Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders alleged the procession in the midnight was unlawful which also triggered an edgy situation on the campus and said the police assisted the Shibir in this regard.
Witnesses said the police were seen patrolling just behind the procession.
BCL RU unit general secretary Abu Hossain Bipu claimed that several crude bombs were blasted from the procession.
Proctor Tariqul Islam said he was informed of the incident at around 1:30am and visited the explosion spots.
Motihar police officer-in-charge Ashit Kumar Ghosh could not confirm the incident of bomb explosions.
Hall students said Shibir activists already established supremacy on the campus following the victory of BNP-backed mayoral candidate in the RCC polls.
In the polls, Jamaat-Shibir openly declared solidarity with the BNP-backed candidate and campaigned for him.
