Munsur Ali’s Shongram has been officially selected for the 5th London Indian Film Festival (LIFF). The red carpet world premiere of the film will take place on July 14 in London.
The film will be screened at The O2 in London. Besides, the film will have a special screening at London’s Leicester Square on July 16.
This is the first time a Bangladeshi based film has been selected for LIFF, which is the largest South Asian film event in Europe. Last year, popular Bollywood film Gangs of Wasseypur had its world premiere at the festival. The week-long festival, which will begin on July 10, will be attended by Bollywood actor-director Farhan Akhtar and noted actor Nana Patekar.
The film was released on March 28 of this year in Bangladesh; however, the film’s title in the local release was 71-er Shongram.
The story of the film revolves around a Muslim man who falls in love with a Hindu woman. As the war breaks out, the man is forced to go underground and join a small group of freedom fighters. He has to face the difficult dilemma of either serving the country or being with his beloved.
Armaan Reza and Dilruba Yeasmin Ruhee have enacted the lead roles, while Bollywood famed actor Anupam Kher, Hollywood-based Italian actor Asia Argento star alongside local actor Arman Parvez Murad and others in the film.
The film has seven songs with playback by Nashid Kamal, Kona, Armeen Musa, Nolok Babu, Raju and others.
‘It’s a privilege to have Shongram’s world premiere at LIFF and to be able to share the country’s liberation struggle with the global audience. I am grateful to the whole team,’ says Munsur Ali, the Bangladeshi born British writer, director and producer of the film.
