A day after the producer of Hindi film ‘Shootout at Wadala’, Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, apologised to Bhartiya Valmiki Dharm Samaaj for a dialogue that the outfit had taken serious objection to, it was the turn of director Sanjay Gupta to render a written apology.
(a copy of which is with Hindustan Times) from Sanjay Gupta stated that, ‘We have complied with requisition as discussed with you in UFO and prints, and scrabble will be complied by next one hour and apologise for the inconvenience caused to the community. We had no intentions to hurt sentiments of any community, caste or religion and regret if film has hurt sentiments of any community, caste or religion.’
The letter was addressed to advocate Harpreet Sandhu, the legal counsel of the outfit.
Notably, on Sunday, the outfit’s national director Lakshman Dravid, who is based in Ludhiana, had sent legal notices to film’s producer Ekta Kapoor and director-cum-co-producer Sanjay Gupta.
A protest was also staged on Sunday in front of a multiplex that was screening the film. The protest led to all the cinema halls cancelling the film’s screening after the morning and noon show.
Not only in Ludhiana, shows were also cancelled in Jalandhar, Bathinda, Patiala, Moga, and Amritsar.
The outfit claims that a dialogue from the film features content derogatory to Maharishi Valmiki.
