The government decision to close shopping malls, stores and kitchen markets across Bangladesh by 8:00pm daily would come into effect from Monday, said a Press Information Department handout on Sunday.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday directed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to shut down shops, shopping malls, kitchen markets, etc by 8:00 pm to save electricity and energy amid the continuous increase in global energy prices.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, issuing a press release on Saturday, demanded the decision to be postponed till Eid-ul-Azha in the best interest of the businesses and the economy.
The apex trade organisation opined that the businesses would be deprived of full-scale festival-centric sale if the markets got closed after 8:00pm.
