Srabanta Habib, nephew of Shahidullah Kaiser and Zahir Raihan, has made a short film on the parental house of
the martyred intellectual brothers.
Habib made the film titled Smritymoy Barir Mrityu to preserve the memory of the building on Ganguly Road in Old Town of Dhaka, which has been handed over to a real estate developer.
‘The house is historically important as local collaborators of the Pakistani army abducted novelist Shahidullah Kaiser from the house on December 14, 1971. Moreover, the popular song E khancha bhango ami kemon korey of Zahir Raihan’s classic Jiban Theke Neya was shot in the house,’ Srabanta Habib told New Age.
‘We had shot the film about a year before the house was handed over to the developer by family elders,’ he said.
Habib, who also made documentaries Paribartan Chai and Muktir Ambeshaney, further said that the aim of the film was to preserve the memories of the house where once noted brothers used to live.
With newcomer artistes Nahin and Sadaf Hasnayen Manjurul acting in the film, the story focuses on a woman researcher (played by Nahin) who researches on the life and works of Shahidullah Kaisar and Zahir Raihan. Produced by Top Secret Films, the post-production works of the film is going on. ‘It will be released soon,’ Srabanta Habib said.
