Bangladeshi director Kamar Ahmad Simon’s Shunte Ki Pao was screened at the prestigious Munich International Documentary
Film Festival 2013 on Thursday.
Screening of the documentary will be repeated on May 12 at the same festival.
The festival, which began on Wednesday, will screen a total of 131 documentary films from across the world. Shunte Ki Pao has been screened in the ‘international competition’ section that has selected 10 international films.
Shunte Ki Pao features the real-life struggle of a community in a small village near Sundarban following the last tidal surge that washed away homes and belongings of the dwellers, compelling them to live stranded on the only existing high land. The aim of the movie is to present the bravery of the ordinary people living their lives against all odds.
Shunte Ki Pao was the curtain raiser of the German Dok-Leipzig festival 2012, the oldest documentary film festival in the world. The film received the best film award at Paris Cinema du Reel 2013, one of the prestigious documentary film festivals in the world.
Even though the film has been screened in several international festivals, the film has not yet been released in Bangladesh.
