Bangladesh began their Rio Olympics Games mission in Brazil on Friday, hours before the opening ceremony with archer Shyamoli Roy finishing 53rd among 64 participants in the ranking round of women’s individual archery events. With the result, Shyamoli set her round of 64 clash against Gabriela Bayardo of Mexico, scheduled on August 11 and the winner will move to the round of 32.
The 22-year-old archer scored a total of 600 points to take the 53rd spot while her Mexican counterpart scored 648 points to finish in 12th position in the ranking round.
Shyamoli, earlier, displayed her best performance in the 2015 Asian Archery in Thailand where she grabbed the gold medal by scoring 618 points which was also her best career score.
This is the first Olympic Games for the woman from Narail after the International Olympic Committee provided her the wild-card.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi shooter Abdullah Hel Baki will take part in the 10-metre Air Rifle event on Monday.
Besides, golfer Siddikur Rahman, swimmers Mahfizur Rahman Sagar and Sonia Akter Tumpa and sprinters Mezbahuddin Ahmed and Shirin Akter are also representing Bangladesh in the world’s largest spoting event.
