Premier Bangladesh golfer Siddikur Rahman closed in on his first Queen’s Cup title and his second Asian tournament win as he claimed top position after the conclusion of
the third day’s play at Samui in Thailand on Saturday.
Siddik shot four-under-par 67 in round three to finish the penultimate day at the top of the leaderboard in the $312,000 event.
The 28-year-old golfer went from strength to strength in the Queen’s Cup, where he clinched second position in the last edition. Siddik ended round one in fourth position, then he improved his position to joint-second after round two.
Siddik listed an overall score of 11-under-par 202 as he carded seven birdies against three bogeys on Saturday. He fired birdies in the very 1st and 2nd holes before following it up with more birdies in the 9th, 11th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes.
Siddik fell to bogeys in the 6th, 7th and 10th holes but that did not stop the talented golfer from reaching the summit.
He will target only his second Asian tournament win after securing the Brunei Open in 2010.
Siddik is leading by a shot against home favourite Prayad Marksaeng in second place while another local contender Arnond Vongvanij is a further shot behind in third.
The ace Bangladeshi golfer was visibly elated with his position after round three and expressed his hope of a win after the fourth and final round today.
‘I’ve been playing well on this course but just didn’t finish it off well. I came in second last year and I’m looking for that win tomorrow [Sunday],’ Siddik was quoted as saying on the Asian Tour website on Saturday.
‘I’ve been playing for a long time and I don’t feel any pressure. I’m feeling very comfortable about my game and I’m just looking forward to the final 18 holes,’ added Siddik.
