Bangladesh golfer Siddikur Rahman endured a horrible final day at the Santiburi Samui Country Club in Thailand as he missed a great opportunity to claim his first
Queen’s Cup title and his second Asian tournament win.
Siddik scored just one birdie and as many as three bogeys and two double bogeys as he carded six-over-par 77 in round four on Sunday to finish a disappointing joint-eighth after starting the day from top position in the leaderboard.
Home favourite Prayad Marksaeng eventually ended the final round’s play in top position carding four-under-par 67, the 47-year-old winning his first Queen’s Cup in five attempts. Another local favourite, 24-year-old Arnond Vongvanij, claimed second position after striking two-under-par 69 on the final day.
Siddik began the final day’s play in the worst fashion possible, falling to a double bogey in the 2nd hole. His day did not to brighten as he fell to another double bogey in the 7th hole on top of the three bogeys he made in the 5th, 9th and 11th holes.
The 28-year-old golfer from Madaripur could only hit a single birdie, that too in the 16th hole as it proved to be too little, too late.
Siddik, who finished second in last year’s Queen’s Cup, ended the $312,000 tournament with an overall score of five-under-par 279, miles behind leader Prayad’s 14-under-par 270.
The premier Bangladesh golfer is still searching for his first Asian Tour title in three years since his Brunei Open win in 2010.
