Siddikur Rahman couldn’t maintain his second round’s majestic form in the third as he ended the day in joint 10th place at the Chiangmai Golf Classic in Bangkok on Saturday.
He finished the third round on three-under-par 69 on a day when it started everything on wrong note as he hit a bogey in the opening hole but he compensated with birdies in the 6th, 8th, 13th and the final holes. With only a round to go, it now seems that a third Asian Title for him is very far from reality.
Meanwhile, Thai veteran Prayad Marksaeng maintained his lead for the third day running when he fired a splendid six-under-par 66 to open up a commanding five-shot lead over countryman Thongchai Jaidee and Australia’s Matthew Stieger.
The 47-year-old Prayad, who led by two shots overnight, stroked a flawless 31 at the Alpine Golf Resort-Chiangmai before shooting three more birdies against two bogeys to put some daylight between him and the chasing pack with a 18-under-par 198 total.
Thongchai, a three-time Asian Tour number one, battled to a 69 for tied second place but conceded he needed a miracle to topple the runaway leader for a win, which he needs to break into the world’s top-50 and earn a place at the Masters Tournament in two weeks’ time.
