Country’s ace golfer Siddikur Rahman clinched the title of the bti International Golf Championship with ease after he finished with a total score of 13-under-par 275 at the Kurmitola Golf Club on Thursday.
Siddik started the fourth and final day of the Tk 15 lakh event with a handy lead of five strokes and he extended his lead with some brilliant shots as he finished 11 strokes ahead of the second-place winners.
Siddik, first Bangladeshi to win an Asian Tour event, ended the final day on five-under-par 67 that had six birdies against only one bogey in it.
Prior the tournament, Siddik had said this competition would be very important to prepare himself for the US Open qualifying round, for which he will leave for England on May 25.
Siddik, ranked eighth in the Asian Order of Merit, won Tk 3,03,750 as prize money from the tournament, participated by 65 golfers from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Mithun Perera started the last round at fifth position, but earned himself the second position after he came back strongly to finish with two-under-par 70. He shared the place with KGC professionals Jakiruzzaman and Jibon Ali as they all ended with total scores of two-under-par 286.
Liton Howlader claimed the third position after he finished with one-under-par 287. The second and third place winners received Tk 1,17,190 and Tk 67,560 respectively.
Amateur golfer Dulal Hossain finished on level par to become fourth and was later rewarded with the best amateur golfer award.
Chief guest Maj Gen Mohammad Matiur Rahman and managing director of Building Technology & Ideas Ltd FR Khan distributed the prizes among the winners.
