Despite a lowly 26th-placed finish in the King’s Cup, Bangladesh golfer Siddikur Rahman had reasons to feel cheerful as he received an automatic entry to the prestigious Eurasia Cup.
Siddik’s position of 26th in the Asian Tour’s season-ending tournament saw him drop a place from third to fourth in the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit. Even then the 29-year old Bangladeshi golfer qualified for the Eurasia Cup by virtue of his fourth place standing in the Order of Merit.
The Eurasia Cup is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from March 27-29 and will pit the top European and Asian golfers against each other.
Team Asia will include the leading four Asian golfers from the final 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit, the leading three Asian players invited on the basis of their official world golf ranking, the captain and two selections chosen by the captain.
On the other hand, Team Europe will select the leading four players from the final 2013 ‘Race to Dubai’, the leading four golfers from the official world golf ranking, the captain and one captain’s pick.
Siddik, who pocketed US$8,683 after the King’s Cup concluded on Sunday, totalled $495,467 in the Order of Merit for the previous year.
Beginning the fourth and final round’s play of the King’s Cup in joint-20th position, Siddik hit one-over-par 73 in Hua Hin, Thailand on Sunday to finish with an overall par score of 288.
Siddik carded two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey as local hope Prayad Marksaeng stole a march on all his rivals to win the US$1,000,000 tournament.
