Bangladesh’s icon golfer Siddikur Rahman maintained his professional approach to come back from second spot to take a sizeable lead in the bti International Golf Championship at the Kurmitola Golf Club on Tuesday.
Siddik, ranked eighth in the Asian Order of Merit list, prior to the tournament said that he will take this opportunity to increase the level of his game and make use of the practice for the upcoming US Open qualifying round later this month.
After a disappointing first round, that saw him at second place with Abdul Matin taking the lead, Siddik came back strongly to end day two with a score of three-under-par 69, that had four birdies against a bogey, to take the sole lead in the Tk 15 lakh event with a total of five-under-par 139.
Bti amateur golfer Nazim and KGC Pro Jibon Ali shares the second spot as both finished with two-under-par 70 having a total score of two-under-par 142.
Matin, who had the lead after the first round, had a miserable day at the lush green outfield as he ended with five-over-par 77 that took him down to fifth place. He now has a score of one-over-par 145.
Another KGC Pro Jamal Hossain Mollah also had a terrific comeback compared to round one as he stroked five birdies to end with five-under-par 67 and shared the fifth place with Matin.
Jamal’s first round score was six-over-par 78 and after day two he stands at fifth position with a total score of one-over-par 145.
Sri Lanka’s Mithun Perera is the only foreign golfer in the top 10 after he slipped from second to fourth position with the round’s score of two-over-par 74.
65 professional golfers from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and hosts Bangladesh are taking part in the four-day competition that will end on May 10.
However, after the end of first round only 47 golfers, who include seven amateur players, made the cut.
