Golfing maestro Siddikur Rahman, after a successful professional year, will begin 2011 at home with a professional golf tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association at the Kurmitola Golf Club, beginning on January 2. Siddikur, who turned professional in 2007, participated in 16 pro-tournaments in Bangladesh. In 2009, he took part in all of the 13 pro-tournaments and he won in 12. He continued his form at home by participating and winning three more pro-tournaments held in 2010. Siddikur became the first Bangladeshi golfer to win an Asian Tour event at the Brunei Open in August and also became the highest earner in 2010 as Bangladeshi individual sportsman. After Siddikur’s performance in the international circuit, the BPGA was formed in 2010 to promote and highlight other professional golfers. The BPGA is planning to hold at least three pro-tournaments in 2011 in which the standard prize money will be a minimum of Tk 10 lakh.
