Six people were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in the capital, Sitakunda and Gaibandha yesterday.
In an accident, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit Mohammad Mohiuddin, 41, of Uzirpur upazila under Barisal when he was crossing the road near Rampura Bazar in the capital at about 11:00am yesterday.
Police said he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he died. Police arrested the driver and seized the vehicle.
In another accident, police recovered a body of an unidentified youth from Airport road of the capital.
The youth, aged about 20, was ran over by an unknown vehicle on the road at about 12:30am, said Sub-Inspector GM Shamsunnur of Airport Police Station.
Police sent the body to the DMCH morgue for autopsy
A correspondent from Chittagong reports: Two people were killed and six others injured in two road accidents in Sitakunda.
In an accident, a vehicle hit Abu Sahed, 18, son of Abu Jafor of North Salimpur village, while he was crossing the road at Banu Bazar of the upazila around 9:30am.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In another accident, an unidentified truck driver was killed and six other people were injured on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge Wahid Siddique of Highway Police said the accident occurred when a Chittagong bound bus collided head-on with a truck, standing in front of Teri Main High School, at 12:00 noon. The truck driver died on the spot.
Driver of the bus Sohel, his helper Abdul Hai, two passengers Guljer Ali and Hafijur Hahman and two helpers of the truck’s driver were also injured.
Our correspondent from Gaibandha reports: Two motorcycle riders, including a woman, were killed in two road accidents in the district.
Police said the first accident occurred when two motorcycles collided head on at Gaibandha-Palashbari road near Gaibandha Fire Service unit, injuring one of the riders Sumaiya Akhter, 18. She succumbed to her injuries on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Her husband Mahfuzer Rahman, riding the motorcycle, also received injuries.
In the second accident, police said motorcycle rider Abdul Litif, a village physician, hit a rickshaw van on Sadullapur-Gaibandha road at Patilakura. He received severe injuries and succumbed on way to hospital. Four people on the rickshaw van also received injuries.
