The sixth Jatra Festival will kick off today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where 21 troupes from across the country will stage their productions before a panel of judges to obtain registration. Under the Jatra Development Regulation 2012, Shilpakala Academy has been organising Jatra Festival to evaluate the performance of troupes since 2012. So far, 61 jatra troupes have got registrations in the earlier five festivals. In the sixth festival which will run till October 20, New Basanti Opera (Rajshahi), Tajmahal Opera (Gaibandha), Digbijoyi Opera (Satkhira), Padma Opera (Natore), Palashi Opera (Mymensingh), Jayanti Opera (Manikganj), Sonali Jatra Unit (Naogaon), Surma Opera (Sylhet), Kiron Opera (Narayanganj), New Rajmoni Opera (Gazipur), Anjali Jatra Unit (Dhaka), Pujashree Opera (Gopalganj), Sahili Natyagoshthi (Satkhira), Agragami Natya Sangstha (Jessore), Sharmin Opera (Gazipur), New Sheuli Opera (Narsingdi), Natya Manjuri Opera (Gopalganj), Akhi Opera (Khulna), Amar Desh Jatra Unit (Narayanganj), Salma Jatra Unit (Kisoreganj) and New Shirin Opera (Khulna) will stage shows.
All the shows will be staged at Studio Theatre Halls from 2:30pm onwards. The shows are free for everyone.
