A two-member security team from Sri Lanka has arrived in Dhaka to inspect the venues for the upcoming series against Bangladesh beginning from January 27, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials on Sunday. The security team, compromised of former Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive Ajit Jayasekara and the current vice-president Mohan de Silva, arrived a day earlier than the scheduled date in order to assess the present situation in Bangladesh.
The security team held a meeting with the BCB officials at Hotel Radisson Water Garden and later attended a dinner party, hosted by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner at his residence.
‘They [security committee members] will have a meeting with us after completing their inspection at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on January 14,’ Hossain Imam, BCB’s security chief, told New Age on Sunday.
The Sri Lankan team will visit Chittagong today before returning to Dhaka to inspect the home of cricket – the SBNS – next day. They will also visit the police headquarters in Dhaka on January 15 before leaving for home.
According to sources close to the BCB, Sylhet, the original venue for the first ODI on February 17, is not in their schedule, which effectively rules out the northeastern town’s debut as an international venue during this series.
The inspection is the final hurdle for the tour of Sri Lanka, who are scheduled to arrive on January 24 to play two Tests, three ODIs and two Twenty20
Internationals against the hosts.
Though Bangladesh Cricket Board said it has received the confirmation from Sri Lanka Cricket, Jayantha Dharmadasa, the president of SLC, told reporters in the UAE recently that that they will confirm the tour only after the visit of their security team.
