Raids go on, another held
The Detective Branch (DB) of the police has got vital information on that some more Indian nationals and accomplices of the International mafia don Daud Ibrahim are now residing in different parts of the country, even in the capital, Dhaka, police sources said.
Following information extracted from the detained close accomplices of the mafia don, Abdur Rauf alias Daud Merchant and Jahid Sheikh during the interrogation, a team of the DB on Monday night conducted a raid on a Tikkapara residence under Mohammadpur police for nabbing their Indian accomplices from there, a high officials of DB said requesting anonymity.
In the raid, they arrested one Insan and later produced them before the court under section 54 of the penal code, as his link to the Indian nationals was not found immediately, he said, adding that the raid apparently failed, as the targeted man slipped out.
The DB personnel are now preparing a list of the Bangladeshi people, who are known, to the Indian nationals, especially the businessmen who had provide them with shelter in the country by examining the call lists of their cell phones for quizzing them, he said. After preparing the list, the DB police will summon those people to appear before them for quizzing.
In a day or two, the DB police would send letter to the Chairman and Mayor of the Brahmanbaria Municipality asking them to appear before the DB to explain why they had given Daud Merchant the citizen certificate to make a Bangladeshi passport. Jahid, who has been residing in the country for the last eight years has confessed to his involvement in the killings of Moyezuddin, Shibaji Rao Bappan Sing, during the third days of interrogation on remand, he said. After committing the murders, Jahid came to Bangladesh to hide, he said quoting Jahid. The ‘terror network’ of the International mafia don Daud Ibrahim was established in the country in the late 1995 and it started strengthening after 2000, police said Monday.
Daud Ibrahim’s close accomplice and Indian nationals Abdur Rauf alias Daud Merchant and Jahid Sheikh, who were arrested in an overnight raid on May 27 from South Mourali village in Brahmanbaria district town reportedly disclosed this during the interrogation, a high official of the DB said preferring anonymity. The DB also arrested Daud Merchant’s local shelter provider Kamal Mia from the same place. He also said that Daud Merchant first came to Khulna in Bangladesh in 1995 as a part of establishing the terror network in the country, he said, adding Jahid later came to Bangladesh in 2001, as part of their mission to strengthen the network in the country.
He said, Jahid along with another Indian national Raju were arrested under section 54 of the penal code from Mohammadpur in the city on March 4 in 2004, he said. Both of them with the help of their local godfathers later got bail from the court and went into hiding. Raju later went to the Indian and did not return.
Jahid has been organising the terror network of the Daud Ibrahim at the directives of Chotta Shakil, second-in-command of the mafia don and SM, another close aide of the Daud Ibrahim, he said.
Jahid has involved in usury business in different parts of the country. He (Jahid) had also an illegal passport of Bangladesh, sources said. Jahid used to live at Shekhertak under Mohammadpur police station in the capital, the sources said. He enlisted his name in the voter roll and cast his vote in the national election. He also had a Bangladeshi passport issued in his name. Chhota Shakil, the second-in-command of Daud Ibrahim, used to send him Rupee 10,000 per month from Dubai. Chhota Shakil is now residing in Dubai.”
Daud Merchant was an accused in the Gulshan Kumar murder case in which, he (Daud Merchant) was sentenced for life, the sources
said, adding that Gulshan Kumar was a noted music disc producer of India. He (Daud Merchant) came to Bangladesh after coming out of jail on a 14-day parole on March 23 last, the sources said. The Indian national entered the Bangladesh territory through Akhaura border in the first week of the April and first took shelter at the capital’s Shekhertak. He later took shelter at the house of Kamal Mia, a tea-stall owner of South Mourali village in Brahmanbaria town, the sources said.
The dreaded terrorists of India made a Bangladeshi passport changing his name to Sheikh Abdur Rahman. The passport number of Daud Merchant is 01917000 and he visited Agartola in India using the passport. He used to live in the house of Kamal Mia and had been moving openly in the area, the sources said. Daud Merchant visited India several times by using the Bangladeshi passports, the sources said.
