The Bangladesh national women’s cricket team squandered a great opportunity to claim a morale-boosting win against their Indian counterparts after going down by 58 runs in the third and final one-day international in Ahmedabad on Friday.
The Bangladeshi women bundled their experienced opponents out for 154 with some disciplined and economical bowling but the batters failed to back it up to be dismissed for 96 to concede the three-match ODI series 3-0.
Rumana Ahmed (4-20) recorded her best bowling figures in one-dayers and she was complemented well by Panna Ghosh (2-37) and Lata Mondal (2-23) as India were all out in 48.3 overs.
Swagatika Rath was the highest contributor for the hosts with her 30 runs off 39 balls, lending some respectability to the scoreline after
India won the toss and decided to take first strike.
Chasing a modest target of 155 to register a consolation win, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals to be deprived of the tie in which skipper Salma Khatun was the top-scorer with 22 runs from 46 balls. None of the other batters could add more than 13 runs as India coasted to the win with a little less than nine overs to spare.
Poonam Yadav (3-15), Ekta Bisht (2-19) and Rath (2-15) shared seven wickets between them to derail Bangladesh’s chase.
Bangladesh had earlier lost the three-match Twenty20 international series 3-0.
The Bangladesh women’s team will return home today after their historic bilateral series.
