Legendary music directors of Bangla songs Khan Ataur Rahman, Subal Das and Debu Bhattachariya were remembered through a musical programme organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday at its National Music and Dance Centre.
A discussion session was also held on the life and works of the legends at the same venue prior to the programme. Famous lyricist Rafiquzzaman, music director of Music and Dance department of Shilpakala Academy Ali Azgar Khokon and director of Music and Dance department Sohrab Uddin Ahmed delivered speeches at the programme.
In presence of a large audience, leading singers of the country like Subir Nandi, Fahmida Nabi, Rafiqul Alam, Nusrat Jahan Shanta, Priyanka Gope, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Moutushi, Shorifa Akhtar Rubi, Maisha Ahsan Khan, Mamun Zahid Khan, Nusrat Sharmin and Shahin Khan presented songs composed by the legends.
Khan Ataur Rahman was popularly known as Khan Ata. He was a multitalented film icon. He was an actor, director, producer, screenplay writer, lyricist, music composer and singer.
‘Khan Ataur Rahman had a unique style of music composition. If one could pick up his style, I’d say s/he is blessed,’ famous lyricist Rafiquzzaman said at the discussion session.
His other famous compositions like Eki sonar aloy jibon bhoriye dile and Tumi cheyechhile ogo jante were beautifully rendered by Maisha Ahsan Khan.
Amake porate jodi ato lage bhalo, Din jay kotha thake, Mon jodi bhenge jay, Protidin tomay dekhi and Pinjor khule diyesi were sung by other artistes.
Subir Nandi moved the audience through his rendition of Debu Bhattachrya’s popular song Ami brishtir kach theke kadte shikhechi. Later he performed another popular song Jibon dilam rokto dilam Padma holo lal that received a huge round of applauses from the audience.
Other singers performed Debu Bhattachrya’s songs like Rafiqul Alam rendered Ek din bohu din agey and Ami kichu na bujhe tomake dukkho dilam, Nusrat Jahan Shanta sang Ektush khani and Pahari phool ami, Priyanka Gope performed Ami nodir moto and Swadhinata ek golap phool. Fahmida Nabi presented songs composed by Subol Das — Saat sagor pari diye and Ek antobihin — and earned wide audience acclaims. Famous songs by Das like Tomra jara aj amader bhabcho manush kina, Dosti jodi chao, Jokhon thambe kolahol, Sondhar chhaya name, Tumi je amar kobita and Gaaner khatay sworolipi likhe were performed by other contemporary singers.
‘Those legends were the creators of many popular numbers during the golden age of Bangla cinema songs. And those creations will be alive forever in the hearts of millions’, an elderly audience Yusuf Matin told New Age.
