Sonia Akhter, the talented swimmer of Bangladesh Ansar, continued to rule the pool for the second consecutive day setting another three national marks in the Walton 24th National Swimming at the National Swimming Complex on Friday.
Sonia wiped out her own record of 1:13.85 seconds in the 100 metre butterfly by finishing the distance in 1 minute 12.93 seconds for her first national mark of the day. The precocious swimmer then set the pool ablaze with a timing of 35.16 seconds in the 50m backstroke erasing the previous record of 35.56sec. Sonia showed little signs of tiredness as she came back to create a new national mark in 200m individual medley. The Ansar swimmer clocked 2min 47.19sec bettering the previous national mark of 2min 48.34sec. Sonia now has set five new national marks in the six events she has participated.
Sobura Khatun added
another national mark to her credentials by winning the 400m freestyle. Sobura timed 5min 12.03sec wiping out the old mark of 5:16.72.
Shahjahan Ali Rony of Bangladesh Army and Mahfuza Khatun of Chittagong University also set new national marks in the 100m breaststroke of the male and female sections. Mahfuza set the new mark with a timing of 1min 19.85sec while Rony clocked 1:07.76 seconds.
Meanwhile, Kamal Hossain of Bangladesh Army won gold in 200m individual medley with a timing of 2:16.80 seconds, Rubel Rana of Bangladesh Navy clocked 29:54 seconds to clinch the gold of the 50m backstroke and Anik Islam of BKSP grabbed gold in 100m butterfly with a timing of 59.33 seconds.
Bangladesh Anasr top the medals table with nine gold medals while Bangladesh Army followed them with four golds.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy reached the final of the water polo beating Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Jails by 11-1 and 12-0 goals respectively.
