2nd IT fest begins at DU
The speaker, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, on Friday stressed the need for use of information technology for the economic development of women in the country.
‘IT can be used for creating employment opportunities for women and providing the mass people with various services,’ she said.Addressing the inaugural ceremony of second IT fair at the Dhaka University’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, she emphasised women’s emancipation in development activities through information and technology.
The Information and Technology Society of Dhaka University organised the two-day festival titled as ‘Role of ICT to prevent violence against women’.
The DU vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, chaired the programme, also addressed, among others, by DUITS president Abdullah Al Imran, television and film studies department chairman AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan and ICT ministry secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, among others, addressed the occasion.
Some 1,000 students from 45 universities are taking part in the two-day festival.
The festival features quiz contest, debate competition on IT, workshops on internet protection and film festival.
