The story of the tele-film circles around Nirupama whose father Ramshundar has to seek the service of a loan shark to marry off his daughter. However, when the money does not arrive, Rai Bahadur — the father of the groom — wants to call off the wedding. His son Shobhon, who is a young magistrate, however insists on marrying the girl. But once Shobhon is off to work, Rai Bahadur keeps Nirupoma locked inside the house, demanding the dowry from her father. Eventually Nirupoma falls ill and succumbs to her malady.
The director of the tele-film, Sadek Siddiqui, said although it was a great challenge to shoot a Rabindranath story, he tried to do justice to the work.
