Off-spinner Sohag Gazi made a magnificent century to give Prime Bank South Zone an edge over BCB North Zone on the second day of the opening Bangladesh Cricket League four-day match at Fatullah on Wednesday. Resuming the play on 255-8, Prime Bank went to score 352 runs thanks to 108 runs off 113 balls from Sohag, who is looking for a way to make his comeback in the national side after his bowling action was cleared.
Unbeaten on 24 overnight, Sohag struck 11 boundaries and five sixes in his 113-ball innings.
At close on the second day, BCB North Zone reached 161-5, trailing by 191 runs.
Sohag added 105 runs in the ninth wicket stand with Al-Amin Hossain, who contributed only 13.
Ariful Haque of North Zone could not add to his tally of six wickets of the first day and finished the spell with 6-75.
Saqlain Sajib picked up two wickets while Taijul Islam and Farhad Hossain grabbed one wicket apiece.
Replying to the score, North Zone made a solid start before opening batsman Junaed Siddique was out for 30 off the bowling of Prime skipper Abdur Razzak.
North lost half of their side for just 118 runs but Naeem Islam and Ariful Haque saw the day off to stay unbeaten on 42 and 19 respectively.
Razzak picked up two wickets while Al-Amin and Sohag got one wicket each.
Earlier on the opening day, Prime Bank rode on 94 of Anamul Haque and 78 of wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan.
