Sraboni the golden girl
Sraboni Biswas brought laurel for the nation when she won the gold medal in the 5th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship beating her Indian counterpart in Chennai yesterday.
Sraboni defeated Indian Sonam Rajput 7-5 to win the gold medal in the 67-kg category after her teammate Shahnaj Khatun won a silver medal in the 62-kg category on Sunday.
In the men’s under-80kg category, Md Imtiaz Ibney Ali won a bronze medal after going down to Scottish Dale Rhodle 2-1 in the semifinals. Imtiaz had earlier beaten Sri Lankan Ratnayeka 8-5 in quarterfinal to move into the semifinals.
Of the 12 nations, Bangladesh finished sixth after securing one gold, as many silver and two bronze medals, said a press release yesterday.
