Foreign minister Dipu Moni on Monday urged Sri Lanka to ease the process for Bangladeshi pharmaceutical companies to export their products to the island country.
She made the request during a meeting with Sri Lankan health minister Maithripala Sirisena at her office. Sirisena is on a three-day visit to Bangladesh from April 8.During the meeting, they expressed satisfaction over the existing excellent relations between the two countries and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Both the ministers agreed on further enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the health sector.
The foreign minister welcomed the Sri Lankan government’s initiative to purchase medicine from Bangladesh under a government-to-government arrangement and assured the health minister of Sri Lanka of all possible cooperation in this regard.
The Sri Lankan health minister thanked the foreign minister for Bangladesh’s assistance in medicine supply.
He informed that Sri Lanka would like to have an institutional framework for the procurement of pharmaceutical products from
Bangladesh.
Both the ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation for training Bangladeshi nurses and nurses’ trainers in Sri Lanka.
