Sri Lanka have requested to play an additional Twenty20 International when they visit in February for a series against Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Saturday.
‘We have decided to include another T20I in the itinerary of Sri Lanka,’ said Enayet Hossain, chairman of the BCB cricket operations, after a meeting of his standing committee.
‘They had made the request to help their side prepare for the ICC World Twenty20. We accepted the request readily as we believe that an addition match against Sri Lanka will be helpful for our team as well,’
Sri Lanka were originally scheduled to play two Test matches, three one-day internationals and a Twenty20 match in the series.
Sri Lanka are expected to arrive in the last week of January for the series.
The series will be followed by the Asia Cup which will begin on February 24 with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan.
The international cricket season will reach its peak with the ICC World Twenty20 from March 16 – April 6.
To accommodate the Asia Cup, the BCB has decided to cancel the planned tri-series one-day tournament featuring Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The Asia Cup was originally slated to be held in India, but the Asian Cricket Council shifted the venue to Bangladesh after the Board of Control for Cricket in India refused to host the tournament.
