Popular recitation organisation Srote Abritti Sangsad celebrated its 25th founding anniversary through a two-day festival on Friday and Saturday at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in the capital.
The two-day festival featured colourful procession, poem recitation, concert and photography exhibition.
The opening day programme commenced with a procession across different parts of the Dhaka University campus. The members of the organisation participated in the procession, carrying colouful festoons and placards.
The day’s programme also included solo recitation of poems by Dahlia Ahmed, Laila Afroz, Robin Das, Mahfuz Masum, Jharna Sarkar, Bhaswar Bandopadhyay, Ahakamullah, and others.
The day’s programme also featured chorus presentation by Srote artistes of a compilation of poems titled Mapa Hashi Chapa Kanna by noted poets Sanjib Chattapadhyay and Sukumar Roy. The poems were compiled and directed by Fakhrul Islam Tara.
The concluding day’s programme began with a chorus presentation of a compilation of children’s poems titled Alor Pakhir Gaan by child artistes of the organisation.
The programme also featured another compilation of romantic poems titled Tomare Haraye Khuji in chorus.
Solo recitation artistes Belayet Hossain, Golam Sarwar, Shimul Mustafa, Masuduzzaman, Golam Sarwar, Majumder Biplob, Shamima Sultana Tandra, and others presented poems of different noted poets including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shamsur Rahman, and others.
However, the day’s greatest attraction was concert of popular band Joler Gaan. Using none of the usual high-tech musical instruments, the band members captivated the listeners only with the acoustic instruments like dhol, percussion, flute, and simple handmade string instruments that created melodious songs. The band received loud applause from the audience through its lively presentation of several songs including Gitol Chithi, Pagoler Prem, Patar Chhobi, Bakul Phul, Ja Ja Mon Tui Ja Rey Ja at the concert.
The festival became more lively with a photography exhibition at the premises of Central Public Library. The exhibition featured images of different important events and members of the organisation.
The concluding day programme was attended by full-hall audience. ‘The whole festival was really enjoyable with lively performances by recitation artistes. However, the concert of Joler Gaan was really entertaining,’ said Sajid Ahmed Joy, a student of Dhaka University, to New Age.
