Dhaka stocks bounced back on Thursday after a fall in the previous trading session as investors became optimistic amid somewhat calmed political front.
DSEX, the benchmark general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, finished at 3,773.78 points, advancing by 1.55 per cent or 57.84 points.The DSEX on Wednesday declined by 55.12 points after it had gained 254.14 points in the previous four trading sessions.
The old key index of the DSE, DGEN, gained 2.07 per cent, or 80.84 points, to close at 3,982.07 points on the day.
The DGEN declined by 55.82 points on Wednesday after advancing by 252.71 points in the previous four trading sessions.
Market operators said the withdrawal of Sunday’s general strike by main opposition party BNP and it allies made the investors optimistic about the market.
They also said that the recent market trend showed that fresh fund had started to come to the market following the government’s decision to refinance the merchant banks and brokerage firms to implement the scheme for the small-scale investors who were affected by the stock market crash in 2010.
The blue-chip index of the bourse, DS30, closed at 1,383.07 points, gaining 1.55 per cent or 21.14 points on the day.
The DS30 declined by 18.13 points on Wednesday after it had gained 97.32 points in the previous seven trading sessions.
The turnover of the bourse declined to Tk 396.18 crore from the previous trading session’s Tk 409.10 crore.
Of the 275 issues traded on the day, 235 advanced, 33 declined, and seven remained unchanged.
‘After staying low in the previous session, the bourse resumed uptrend today as confidence improved amid calmed political frontier and stronger participation,’ IDLC Investments Ltd said in its daily market commentary.
Orion Pharma topped the day’s turnover leaders with its shares worth Tk 19.81 crore changing hands.
Khulna Power Company, United Airways, Summit Purbanchol Power Company, Beximco and Generation Next Fashions were also on the list of the top 10 turnover leaders.
Premier Leasing led the gainers as its share price went up by 9.90 per cent on the day.
GBB Power, Pragati Insurance, First Lease Finance and Investment, Global Insurance, Grameen Mutual Fund One, Khulna Power Company were also among the top gainers on the day.
Pioneer Insurance was the day’s worst loser as its share prices declined by 9.18 per cent.
