Dhaka stocks advanced on Tuesday after declining in the previous trading session with significant rise in turnover as the UN move to reach a political consensus to hold the next polls continued to impact on the capital market investors. The turnover of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, increased to Tk 746.05 crore which was Tk 647.36 crore in the previous trading session.
DSEX, the benchmark general index of DSE, increased to 4,329.53 points, adding 0.92 per cent or 39.71 points.
The blue-chip index of the bourse, DS30, advanced by 0.31 per cent, or 4.75 points, to close at 1,500.74 points on the day.
Market operators said that investors’ participation on the trading floor increased on the day as the United Nations assistant secretary-general for political affairs Oscar Fernández-Taranco kept on his move to reach a political consensus.
Some media reports during the trading hour on Tuesday said that the Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir with the mediation of Oscar Fernández-Taranco were holding a meeting to resolve the political deadlock and that boosted investors’ participation and turnover of the day, they said.
‘Market had been hovering around 4,300 points level for the past five sessions, which also continued today with 40 points gain,’ IDLC Investments said in its daily market commentary.
‘Consequently, yesterday’s increased turnover snowballed today, crossing Tk 700 crore level after 10 sessions,’ it said.
‘Keeping in line, the largest exporting sector textile showed much enthusiasm from the session’s beginning and gained 1.08 per cent at the day end,’ IDLC said.
Of the traded 288 shares and mutual funds, 210 advanced, 71 declined and 8 remained unchanged.
Generation Next Fashions led the turnover chart as its shares worth Tk 40.51 crore changed hands on the day.
Paramount Textile, Golden Son, Golden Harvest Agro Industries, Delta Life, Lankabangla Finance, Central Pharmaceuticals, Argon Denims, RN Spinning Mills and Bangladesh Building Systems were among other turnover leaders of the day.
Delta Spinners gained the most on Tuesday as its share prices increased by 9.90 per cent, while Pharma Aids lost the most shedding 4.77 per cent.
