5 youths arrested
The Sylhet Metropolitan Police in separate drives conducted Wednesday late night seized two stolen motorcycles and one auto-rickshaw and picked up five youths on charge of lifting the vehicles.
The arrested were identified as Shamim Ahmed, 32, Zahir Miah, 29, Saddam Hossain, 21, Rifat Islam, 19, and Mamunur Rasheed, 23.Sources in the police said a special team of the SMP conducted the drives at different places in the city at night and seized the stolen motorcycles and auto-rickshaw.
They also arrested the youths for their suspected involvement in lifting the seized vehicles, the sources said.
SMP additional commissioner Rokan Uddin said Thursday afternoon that the arrested were members of a gang of motorcycle lifters.
‘They were also involved in selling and buying stolen motorcycles and auto-rickshaws in the city for long,’ the police
officer said, adding that the arrested were handed over to the respective police stations.
