Pace bowler Mashrafee bin Murtaza said Bangladesh should not expect any quick results from the newly-appointed specialist bowling coach Heath Streak as he does not have a magic wand. Streak joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board on a two-year contract as a specialist bowling coach last week and is currently busy honing the skills of the Tigers ahead of three-match one-day international series against India.
‘We should not expect results too soon,’ Mashrafee told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. ‘He [Streak] has just started, but he is very positive. I feel we need to give him time.’
Mashrafee asked the local bowlers to share their ideas with the new coach and communicate with him more whenever they are presented a new gameplan by the veteran Zimbabwean.
‘It is very important for the players to talk to the coach,’ said Mashrafee. ‘Every coach has a different style of coaching and it is crucial for the players to adapt to his style.
‘Before changing anything it is important for a player to discuss with the coach as he cannot change his game every time,’ said Mashrafee.
The former skipper, however, said Streak is yet to advise anyone for any change as he is still observing things.
‘He has his plans that he is expected to implement when he starts his proper work. Before doing this he will perhaps see our weaknesses in match condition,’ said Mashrafee.
