A private university student died while diving in the
Dhaka University swimming pool on Wednesday noon.
The victim was identified as Fahim Shahriar Chowdhury Rafi, 20, a first year student of American International University Bangladesh.Doctors declared him death when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Witnesses said Fahim sustained internal injuries in the chest, which caused profuse bleeding from his mouth.
‘He came to the pool at around 11:00am on the day and jumped from a board before he learned it properly,’ said Shahjahan Ali, deputy director and person-in-charge of the swimming pool.
‘No rescuers were present at the spot when the incident took place,’ some swimmers alleged while it was denied by Shahjahan Ali.
An unnatural death case was filed with the Shahbagh police station, the officials said.
M Abdul Jalil, subinspector of the Shabagh Police Station, said Fahim’s lungs might have been affected during diving.
The body was handed over to the family without postmortem examination, said DMCH officials.
Fahim resided at Paribag with his family.
