Students of Secondary School Certificate Examination, 2015 and 2016 batches in Barisal held demonstrations on Tuesday, protesting against the introduction of creative-system in mathematics.
Tanvir Ahmed Ayon and Rifat Hasan, both students of Barisal Government Zilla School, on behalf of the participants in a human chain formed in the city, said not only the students but also the mathematics teachers were yet to be habituated to and trained in the creative system of curriculum.
Under the new system the students feared that their results would be poor.
Creative system in mathematics should be initiated after 2017 or 2018 batches, ensuring adequate number of trained math-teachers and giving more time to the learners to be familiar with the system from the junior level of education, the participants agreed.
After the human chain, the students handed over a memorandum to the Barisal education board authorities and took out a procession on the city roads.
Abul Bashar Talukdar, inspector of schools, receiving the memorandum, said they would forward it to the authorities concerned for selecting curriculum.
