Young director Sudip Chakroborthy has been bestowed with theatre troupe Natyadhara’s Tanusree Padak.
On Saturday, thespian Ferdousi Majumdar who was present as the chief guest on the occasion, handed the award over to Sudip at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Thespian Lucky Enam and Nasrin Jahan were present at the programme as special guests. The programme was presided over by Masud Parvez Miju, the president of the troupe.
The award was introduced by Natyadhara in 2001 in memory of its late member Tanusree Gayen who died in 2000 from leukemia. Earlier, Alok Basu, convener of selection committee, delivered a welcome speech.
Sudip is the 13th recipient of the award, which is given to the young theatre practitioners.
Tropa Majumdar, Ashish Khandaker, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Rahul Anand, Jaglul Ahmed and others got the award in previous years.
Sudip Chakraborthy is an assistant professor at the department of Dramatics at Dhaka University. He is already an acclaimed director who has directed commendable productions like Shakespeare’s Macbeth for Padatik Natya Sangsad, Mohajoner Nao for Subachan Natya Sangsad, Laal Jamin for Shunyan and many others.
As an actor he has performed in productions like Dumb Waiter, Three Sisters, Amar Bawanno, Behular Bhasan, Kobor, Mahua and others.
He has attended and guided many theatre workshops at home and abroad.
Following the award ceremony, Natyadhara staged the 26th show Tagore’s Rother Roshi, which is the 19th production of the troupe.
Directed by Ashish Khandakar, the show entertained a large number of audience at the National Theatre Hall.
