It assails EC for its controversial activities
Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a civil society platform, on Friday placed two formulas on the election-time government in a bid to resolve the ongoing political crisis in line with the Constitution, reports UNB. Sujan secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder presented the two formulas at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club. As per the first formula, a polls-time interim government can be formed with 10 elected MPs as its cabinet members-each five MPs from the ruling grand alliance and the opposition 18-party alliance. A non-partisan person will head the interim administration.
Sujan also suggested formation of a search committee comprising former chief justices to pick the 11 persons. According to the second formula, a 15-member interim cabinet comprising five MPs each from the grand alliance, the 18-party alliance and five neutral persons can be formed. Of the five neutral persons, one will be the head of the interim government.
A search committee comprising former chief justices will be formed to find out the 15 members, provided that no member of interim cabinet shall run in the election or participate in electioneering.
In both the formulas, the 90-day interim government shall just carry out only routine work and assist the Election Commission to conduct a fair and free election.
Sujan President M Hafizuddin Khan, vice president SM Shahjahan, executive members justice Kazi Ebaidul Haque, Syed Abul Maksud, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Dr Tofail Ahmed, were, among others, present at the function.
Addressing the press conference, Dr Majumder said the dialogue and compromise between two major political parties is a must to remove all the obstacles stood in the way of arranging an inclusive election with the participation of all political parties.
“With a view to breaking the ongoing political deadlock, we’ve placed the two alternative formulas within the ambit of the Constitution.”
He stressed the need for a permanent solution to remove the political instability. “We think that the two major parties should sit in comprehensive dialogue to find out a suitable permanent solution.”
M Hafizuddin Khan said the Election Commission is becoming controversial for its activities. “The commission could not announce the election schedule yet. Besides, the EC should have taken opinion before for the amendment to the RPO.”
