The two-day Sultan Utsab organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy ended on Saturday through a seminar at the Shishu Swargo auditorium in Narail.
The concluding day’s event also featured a journey by boat on the Chitra River and a cultural show at the open stage of
the Narail district Shilpakala Academy.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in association with the local organisations organised the two-day Sultan fair celebrating the master artist’s 89th birth anniversary five months after Sultan’s birthday that actually falls on August 10.
The cultural affairs secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas was present at the concluding day’s event as the chief guest when eminent artist Hashem Khan was present as the special guest.
Deputy commissioner of Narail district Abdul Gaffer Khan, the ex-officio president of Sultan Foundation, presided over the session.
Earlier, on Friday the fair was inaugurated by the prime minister’s foreign Affairs adviser Gauhor Rizvi as the chief guest. The local lawmaker Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, DC of Narail and others were present at the programme as special guests.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The opening day’s event featured a child-art camp.
In the evening, a colourful cultural programme was held at the district Shilpakala Academy.
Shilpakala Academy’s acrobatic troupe also entertained the audience presenting stunning acrobatic performances.
Born in 1924, the master artist SM Sultan was honoured with the Ekushey Padak in 1982, Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993.
He was declared the Man of Asia in 1982 by Cambridge University. Sultan died in Jessore combined Military Hospital on 10 October, 1994.
He was buried at the yard of his own house at Masumdia village in Narail.
