Mobile phone operator Robi Axiata Limited has appointed Supun Weerasinghe, a Sri Lankan national, as its new chief executive officer with effect from January 1 next year.
Current CEO Michael Kuehner will retire from full-time corporate services in December but will serve as a director in the company, a news release issued by the company said on Sunday.
Supun Weerasinghe, former CEO of Sri Lanka-based Dialog Mobile, has been serving as chief strategy officer in Axiata Group since February this year.
He is also the head of network transformation strategic business unit of Axiata Group.
Supun is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK, and holds a BSc in accountancy and financial management from University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.
He also has an MBA from University of Western Sydney, Australia and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
Axiata Group appointed Supun as CEO, focusing on the 3G market as Robi
recently acquired the 3G licence.
‘As Bangladesh embraces the internet era with the deployment of 3G services, I am confident that Supun and his team will steer the company towards a new phase of growth,’ Axiata Group CEO Jamaludin Ibrahim said.
The outgoing CEO has great contribution to building the business of Robi and outperformed all the targets, he said.
