The artistes of Suder Dhara recited Tagore’s classic Chitrangada on Friday at the Chhayanaut auditorium.
The experimental production features parts from two versions of Tagore’s Chitrangada: a lyrical drama which was later converted
by the poet as dance drama.
Through dialogues and music the production, directed by Azizur Rahman Tuhin, highlights the inner beauty of soul over the physical beauty through the affair of the legend Arjun and Manipuri princess named Chitrangada as mentioned in the epic Mahabharat.
The forth years students of Surer Dhara including Pabok Dipro, Anika tasnim Oishee, Nuzhat Fariha Khan, Akash Mandol, Namiha Suhana Nadim, Mehnaz Huda lamisa, Samiha Tahsin Bushra and Aniruddho Borua Kabbyo performed in the production.
‘We tried to mingling the lyrical and dance drama version of Chitrangada so that story gets a new dimension,’ director Azizur Rahman Tuhin told New Age.
A good number of audiences enjoyed the show. Nipa Rahman, a business person, who lives in Mohammadpur, told New Age that it was a good experimentation to blend the two versions of Chitrangada. ‘I have watched both of the Tagore’s versions of Chitrangada as different productions. This is for the first time I watched a blend of the two versions and enjoyed it,’ Nipa said.
Manisha Ahmed Rakhi, a college student, said that she liked the performance of young but talented arties of Surer Dhara.
