The combined admission test of honours first year first semester under the academic year of 2013-14 of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) and Jessore Science & Technology University (JSTU) will be held on November 30. 35 students will contest for a seat at SUST while 19 students for a seat at JSTU. The admission test of SUST and JSTU will be held with same question at same time for the first time. According to the admission committee sources, a total of 49442 students against 1400 seats under two units at 25 disciplines of SUST have registered to sit in the admission tests while 11438 students against 610 seats under two units at 16 disciplines of JSTU. In SUST a total of 20143 students enrolled themselves to sit in the admission test against 600 seats under A Unit that comprised the departments of social science and business administration and 29299 students against 800 seats under the B Unit that comprised the departments of sciences. Apart from a total of 1201 students against 70 seats enrolled under the Unit of A while 10237 students against 540 seats under the Unit of B in JSTU.
Admission test will be completely held in MCQ system. For every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. Different merit lists will be prepared for each group (Group 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5) of A and B unit. Out of 100 marks in merit list 70% marks will be from the admission test and 30% marks will be from S.S.C/Equivalent and H.S.C/Equivalent examination. Regular students will have their S.S.C and H.S.C result prepared by multiplying S.S.C and H.S.C grade by 3. For irregular students it will be multiplied by 2.7. Students from Humanities & Commerce must get 50 percent marks in General Math in admission test to get admitted in Economics department. An applicant must get 50 percent marks in English in admission test to get admitted in English department. Student must be bring 4 recently taken passport size photographs, main mark sheet of S.S.C/equivalent and H.S.C/equivalent and required money during the admission process. In SUST, a total 63 additional seats are reserved only for the students under the three categories: son/daughter of Freedom Fighter (25 seats), Indigenous (25 seats) and Disabled (13 seats) and in JSTU, a total 42 additional seats are reserved only for the students under the three categories: son/daughter of Freedom Fighter (30 seats), Indigenous (6 seats) and Disabled (6 seats). After receiving the regarding certificate the student will be considered for the reserved seats.
Apart from students awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal by International Math Olympiad/ International Informatics Olympiad/ International Physics Olympiad or any other International Olympiad will have the opportunity to get enroll to their desired subject in any one of the both university without admission test.
Member Secretary of SUST Admission Test Committee Prof Shah Alam told The Independent that, the deadline to register for admission seekers ended at 11:59pm on Friday. Candidates can get any admission related information from the university website www.sust.edu/admission and www.jstu.edu.bd, he added.
