Prangonemor Theatre Fest
Swadeshi staged on second day
Theatre troupe Prangonemor staged its second production Swadeshi on the second day of the troupe’s ongoing eight-day theatre festival at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
Based on Tagore’s Char Adhyay, the play has been adapted and directed by Nuna Afroz. Set against the backdrop of Bangladesh in the British colonial period, the play focuses on the anti-British sentiment and human bonds.
The play shows a woman Ila who falls in love with Atin, a revolutionary, and both of them begin to question the corruption and ideologies of the leaders of anti-British movement.
Nuna Afroz as Ila, Ramij Raju as Atin and Ananta Hira as Indranath marvelously portrayed the conflict on stage.
‘The play is very much performance-based. There is scope of brilliant acting in the play,’ said director of the play Nuna Afroz on her debut directorial endeavour.
Though the play did not attract a full-house audience, a considerable number of audience enjoyed the play and praised the performance of the actors.
‘I saw Swadeshi when it was first staged in 2005. The actors look more sharp now which makes the play very compact,’ said Shantonu Das, a theatre activist.
‘The production did not seem very rich to me,’ opined another audience Atoar Rana.
Today Prangonemor will stage its fourth production Raktakarabi at the same venue.
