Seventeen singers of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra infused patriotism into the houseful audience presenting inspirational songs they used to render from the radio station during the war of independence at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
They performed at the concluding day of the of the three-day Victory Day celebrations programme organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Leading singers, dancers and poets also presented songs, dance and recitations at the three-day programme, which also included a seminar and discussion sessions on the war.
The academy also organised a three-day film screening session featuring films based on the war of independence, which also ended on the Victory Day.
Singers of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra like Abdul Jabber, Indra Mohan Rajbanshi, Rafiqul Alam, Timir Nandi, Fakir Alamgir, Manoranjan Ghoshal, Mala Khurram, Rupa Farhad, Namita Ghosh Anup Bhattachrya, Monwar Hossain, Nowshed Ali, Sheikh Jamir and Bulbul Mahalnabish created an energetic ambiance through their songs on Monday at the academy.
In group, the singers rendered inspirational songs such as Salam Salam, Purba Digante, O Amar Desher Mati, Swadhin Swadhin, Rukhe Darao and Jai Jadi Jaak Pran.
Eminent singers like Subir Nandi, Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Sajed Akbar, Krishnakali, Fakir Sahbuddin and others pleased the audience presenting patriotic songs.
Dance troupes such as Nrityalak, Nandan Kala Kendra, Nataraj, Dibya Sangskritik Sangathan, Jhankar Lalitakala Academy, Dhriti Nrityanalay presented spectacular dance recitals synchronised with popular patriotic songs.
Popular poets of the country like Syed Shamsul Haque, Nirmalendu Goon, Quazi Rosy, Aslam Suny recited self-composed poems at the programme. Additionally, recitation artistes Bhaswar Bandapaddhay, Shahadat Hossain Nipa, Jharna Sarkar, Aslam Shishir, Syed Hasan Imam, Mijanur Rahman Sajal recited patriotic poems.
The representatives from the respected fields presented papers on the reflection of the war of independence in different art forms like music, dance, literature, film, theatre and fine arts.
Hundreds of audience enjoyed the programme on all the three days at BSA. Makeshift stalls of traditional and seasonal ‘pithas’ were other attractions for them.
A huge number of audience watched the war films at the three-day screening session at the International Digital Cultural Archive.
On the opening day of the film session, Humayun Ahmed’s Aguner Parashmoni and Tareque Masud’s documentary Muktir Gaan were screened.
A full-hall audience enjoyed Humayun Ahmed’s Shyamal Chhaya and Nasiruddin Yusuff’s Guerrilla on Sunday.
Similar number of audience also enjoyed Toukir Ahmed’s Joyjatra and Morshedul Islam’s Amar Bandhu Rashed on Monday.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also showcased some rare video clips taken during the war of independence by local and foreign filmmakers.
‘I thank Shilpakala for organising such an elaborate celebrations programme. They have managed to portray the war of independence in different mediums,’ said Anupam Hayat, a film researcher and cultural activist.
