Swan Foam fined
A foam manufacturing industry in Tejgaon was fined Tk 7 lakh yesterday for operating without environment clearance certificate in the city.
A team of the Department of Environment (DoE) led by Mohammad Monir Chowdury, director of Monitoring and Enforcement wing, penalised Swan Foam Industry Ltd.
The factory was found running for the last 17 years without taking any environment clearance certificate, said a press release.
Swan Foam does not use and reserve the harmful and toxic raw materials in an environment-friendly way either.
The DoE team asked the industry for all measures to control and stop environmental pollution by December 31, and threaten its closure upon non-compliance.
People surrounding the factory face health hazards for the bad odour of the chemicals. The workers are directly exposed to the risks, as they do not use gumboot and mask during work.
