Recitation troupe Swarachitra observed the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 37th death anniversary on Saturday at the Studio Theatre Hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The programme titled Rudrabina, compiled and directed by eminent recitation artist Mahidul Islam, featured discussions and presentations of some evergreen Nazrul’s poems highlighting his spirit of rebellion.
Eminent playwright Professor Mumtazuddin Ahmed was the chief guest at the programme. Professor Ziaul Hasan and poet Rezauddin Stalin were the special guests at the discussion session which was presided over by Mahidul Islam, the chief of the troupe.
Discussants at the programme analysed Nazrul as a revolutionary poet. They gave such opinion that Nazrul’s spirit as a revolutionary derived from romanticism.
Following the discussion, members of the troupe presented Nazrul’s two revolutionary poems Kandari Hushiar and Hey Sharboshaktiman in group.The audience also enjoyed solo presentations of Nazrul’s poems.
The renowned artist Mahidul Islam, with his stentorian voice modulation, recited Nazrul’s evergreen revolutionary poems such as Bidrohi, Srishti Sukher Ullashey, Jater Name Bajjati, Sat-il Arab and Kandari Hushiar.
Tamanna Daisy recited Khudiramer Ma, while Shammirun Islam Shammi recited romantic poem Phalguni.
‘We chalked out the programme to give a glimpse of Nazrul’s creativity to the audience,’ Mahidul Islam told New Age.
