Love has always inspired Nobel Laureate Tagore throughout his life and his works. Inspired by the romanticism in Tagore’s works noted Indian choreographers Madhumanti Maitra and Ashoke Viswanathan have directed a dance drama titled ‘Rabindra Rachonay Tridhara Prem’, which is based on Tagore’s works.
The drama, a mélange of music, recitation, dance and enactment of excerpts from Tagore’s plays and novels, was staged on Friday at the National Museum as part of the ongoing joint celebrations of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore between India and Bangladesh.
All the segments of the dance drama are related to triangular configurations that emerge from the complex dynamics of relationships in Tagore’s creations. The elements of entertainment and humour are strong components of the production.
The team of the production includes Ashoke Viswanathan, Joydip Moitra, Jayati Chakrabarty, Chaiti Ghoshal, Sukalyan Bhattacharya, Subrata Banerjee and others.
Selective parts from Raktokarobi and Chirakumar Sabha were staged. Dancers performed magnificently with Tagore songs like Amaro porano o jaha chay, Poush toke daak diyechhey, Kar dakey and others. A few romantic poems from Gitanjali were recited at the show.
A hall full of audience enjoyed the experimental production. Tasnuva, an audience, terming the production as an exclusive
work told New Age, ‘It is a quality experimentation based on Tagore’s works for the contemporary
audience.’
