The 100th anniversary of Tagore’s winning of the Nobel Prize was celebrated in a programme jointly organised by Bangladesh National Museum and Chhayanaut on Saturday at the
main auditorium of the museum.
Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel in literature in 1913 as a first non-European for his English edition of Gitanjali (Song Offerings).
Chhayanaut president Dr Sanjida Khatun was the chief guest at the discussion programme presided over by its cultural secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas. International Theatre Institute’s worldwide president Ramendu Majumdar and trustee board chairman of the museum M Azizur Rahman also delivered speech at the function.
In her speech, distinguished Tagore researcher Sanjida Khatun analysed the various aspects of Geetanjali.
‘Rabindranath found the essence of God in nature, that’s why nature is pre-dominant in his literature,’ Khatun evaluated.
Subsequently, leading Tagore singers and recitation artistes of the country presented 15 songs and poems from Gitanjali at the programme.
Jayanta Chattapadhyay recited Sundaro bote tabo angodo khani, which was also rendered by the Chhayanaut singers in chorus.
Prominent singers like Iffat Ara Dewan, Mita Haque, Azizul Haque Tuhin, Adity Mohsin and others also presented Tagore songs at the programme. Aly Zaker recited a poem from the English edition of Gitanjali.
