Tagore’s plays to be staged today
On the fifth day of the ongoing theatre festival, organised by Mohakal Natya Sampraday, Tagore’s two plays and an adapted play from Tagore’s writings will be staged at three different venues today.
Nagorik Natya Sampradaya will stage Tagore’s classic Raktakorobi at the National Theatre Hall while Kolkata based theatre troupe Ifta will stage another Tagore drama Horikhela at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Dhaka Padatik will stage Apod, based on Tagore’s short story having the same title at the Chhayanaut Auditorium.
Directed by Ataur Rahman, Raktakarabi depicts the conflict between mechanisation and the free human spirit.
The play is a critique of the ideology of exploitation that leads to dehumanisation.
Directed by Debashish Dutt, Horikhela features a story of betrayal and revenge set against the backdrop of an ancient small Indian dynasty called Bhunag Adapted and directed by Masum Aziz, the play Apod narrates different human emotions in question of trust and mistrust in diverse human life through the story of Kiron, an ailing housewife who goes to change the air at their rural Bungalow.
